I contacted Garmin via Chat and they advised to perform a hard restart, which didn't work. They then said to contact Garmin for a warranty claim.

Same issue. Last night is suddenly went from 27% to dead, recharged it, and now the heart rate is not working, it wont connect to the phone, and the step count is frozen. I just sent mine off to Garmin via RMA. They wanted to figure out what's going on. you might need to do the same.
